2018 Community Report

The American aspiration is to be a company of advisors who directly contribute to the financial stability of every community to which we belong. We achieve this by living three principles: give and earn trust; learn, teach and mentor; collaborate and innovate.

American is committed to helping our communities grow and prosper. In 2018 American gave back more than $900,000 to the communities it serves. This was made possible through donations, sponsorships and our Community Rewards checking account. Through our Community Rewards checking account, our customers are able to contribute donations to local charities.

In addition to donations, American held free community events such as our 2018 Splash Bash’s and our American Movie Night. To highlight the importance of community, American employees were asked to volunteer throughout the year to causes of their choice. We recognize the value of service and encourage our employees to volunteer for projects or causes they are passionate about. Through employee involvement, we are able to see the needs of our communities, work to find a solution and bridge the gap of where we are now to where we need to be.

American Bank Center

American Bank Center completed a branch transformation at its Glendive, Montana location and implemented the same branch-of-tomorrow concept at its new Bismarck location on Burnt Boat Drive. The concept features industry leading technology and a new model of service that provides more convenience for customers. Customers will have one point of contact for all their banking needs, instead of being transferred from one person to another. Banking services offered in the new space include: retail, e-banking, consumer lending and home mortgage. In addition, there is an opportunity to consult with financial experts at American Trust Center and American Insurance Center using video conference capabilities.

American Insurance Center

American Insurance Center set a new record in 2018 for total revenue. American Insurance Center continues to grow and strengthen its relationships with carriers. Three advisors were asked to serve on the following councils: Farmer's Alliance Agency Council, Safeco National Advisory Council and N.D. Young Agents Committee.

American Trust Center

American Trust Center also set a new record in 2018 for revenue and net income. In addition, it added American Wealth Management advisors in all major markets while expanding the business development efforts to eastern North Dakota and Minnesota. American Trust Center also saw the addition of a new role, Para Planner. This individual is responsible for assisting trust officers and financial advisors with financial planning for clients.

Matt French owns and operates Mile High Trucking, MFCF Trucking and Mile High Properties N.D. The companies began as start-ups in 2017 and are now three successful businesses. Matt utilizes American Insurance Center, American Trust Center and American Bank Center for his company’s needs. What started as a business referral soon turned into a partnership and close relationship with his business banker, Brian Rummel. “Without Brian, I couldn’t have grown these companies so quickly. He has been my go-to guy, mentor and like a dad to me,” said French. Matt had always dreamed of owning his own business but had no idea it would be in the trucking industry. When asked about his experiences with American, he simply responded, “We love American Bank!”

Dawn and Paige are co-owners of The Cozy Café in Cando, N.D. Both have a passion for cooking and thought about what type of business they wanted to own for years. When the opportunity presented itself to open The Cozy Café in October 2018, they worked with American Bank Center to make their dreams a reality. “Lisa at American Bank Center was willing to help us right away. She jumped on her computer and started finding solutions immediately,” said Odhiambo. Now, customers of American Bank Center and American Trust Center, Dawn and Paige continue to build their business and expand their relationships with American. The Cozy Café is a warm and welcoming hang-out for all ages and is particularly known for its giant caramel rolls.

Nolan Johnson is the owner of Quantum Productions. Nolan has a background in journalism and a passion to help companies tell their stories. He started his company full-time in 2016 with the help of American Business Banking Officer Steve Zottnick. What started as an acquaintance through mutual friends turned to business and now friendship. Nolan recalls some of the unique challenges he faced with purchasing large video equipment that Steve was able to find solutions for. “He’s always available when I need him. It’s gone from a great working relationship to a great friendship,” said Johnson. Nolan is excited to see what the future holds for Quantum Productions and plans to continue growing his company.
